Utility

Utility is a category reserved for companies that make a product that does something. This could be one that makes "smart" roller luggage or one that makes a paint brush cover that stops the paint in the bristles from drying.

Though there is also a Home category, those items are specifically aimed at a domestic use. Companies that make a product that falls under utility either have uses easy to imagine outside the home or are more general in what they do. One could make an argument that Scrub Daddy could be more than classified as Home but because their primary target audience is the home market and, thus, they are categorized as such.

More often than not, companies with products categorized under utility are the type of products people generally think of when they think of Shark Tank. Deals that begin with the pitch, "Sharks, do you ever wish that..." Interestingly, these types of deals were not among the most popular in the first three seasons but still rank among the top five categories of all time because of the sheer amount.
