Direct To Consumer

Direct to Consumer is a phrase that means the product is not sold through a middle-man and, thus, is always sold for retail price with the manufacturer realizing the full margin between the cost to manufacture and the sale price.

This used to be done via mail order catalog or over the phone but these days this almost exclusively means that the sales happened through a company's website. Even sales through a 3rd party sales platform like Shopify would still qualify as "direct to consumer" under our definition.

The shorthand for direct to consumer is frequently D2C, just like Business To Business is expressed as B2B.
